An annual license renewal should describe the school you operate today, not the one in last year’s application. Problems start when old documents get new dates while the programs, people, and policies behind them have changed.
What’s involved
Renewal means comparing your current institution with the last application, covering ownership, personnel, programs, location, policies, and publications. Your catalog, enrollment agreement, program information, and fee schedules need to agree with each other, and financial materials are prepared with your CPA. The specific work depends on your institution and its licensing circumstances. Schools licensed by means of accreditation (LBMA) use their own application forms.
Timing
Your dates come from your current license, CIE correspondence, and the renewal instructions that apply to your institution. Work backward from them. Give financial preparation its own lead time, and leave room after submission to answer CIE’s follow-up requests.
Where renewals get stuck
- Carrying the old application forward. The renewal ends up describing a school that no longer matches your operations.
- Unreported changes. A change in ownership, personnel, programs, or location surfaces during renewal and needs to be resolved, not carried quietly into an old form.
- Mixed versions. An updated catalog goes in with an outdated enrollment agreement.
- Late financials. The CPA starts without the current instructions or without enough time.
