CIE DEADLINE REFERENCE

Florida CIE Deadlines for Licensed Schools

The published dates and advance-notice rules that licensed schools most often need to keep track of, with a link to the official source for each.

CIE deadlines come from three places: dates the Commission publishes, rules that set a window or a notice period, and the dates in your own license and CIE correspondence. This page covers the first two. Your own dates always come first.

Annual student data collection

Licensed institutions report annual student data online through CIE’s system between October 1 and November 30, covering the preceding July 1 through June 30. The window runs through November 30. Missing it can bring a fine, so don’t wait until the last week. CIE Form 801 · Rule 6E-2.004, Chapter 6E, F.A.C.

Commission meeting application deadlines

CIE publishes a meeting calendar with an application deadline for each meeting. To be considered at a given meeting, applications are due by the dates below. Deadlines that have already passed are marked below. A published meeting date does not confirm placement on an agenda.

Notice periods for changes

Some changes need to reach CIE before you make them. Planning backward from your intended date matters more than the form.

  • Change of ownership or control: written notice at least 30 days before the change (Rule 6E-2.0081). See how I help with ownership changes.
  • Change of name: notice at least 30 days before the change (Rule 6E-2.004, Standard 1).
  • Other significant changes to what CIE last reviewed, such as corporate charter, purpose, administrative structure, finance, or physical facilities: filed at least 30 days before implementation (Rule 6E-2.008). Programs and additional locations have their own approval requirements. See substantive changes.
  • Recruiting agent resignation or dismissal: written notice to CIE within 10 days (Rule 6E-2.010).
  • Closing an institution: student records go to CIE within 30 days of ceasing operation (Rule 6E-2.009).

Continuing education

Each year, the people in key administrative positions at a licensed school must complete at least 8 hours of continuing education related to their positions. That includes the school director or chief executive, the chief education officer, and the placement, admissions, and financial aid directors. Faculty must also complete 8 hours each year. Keep records of the training at the school, because CIE can inspect them, and compliance is a condition of licensure or renewal.

My training through HERO Learning Institute, which I co-founded with Mark Murray, offers continuing education for school staff. Check the listing for each course for its hours and what it covers.

What late filing can cost

  • Annual student data: a fine of $250 for a first late submission and $500 for later ones, if the data is more than 14 days past the deadline (Rules 6E-2.004 and 6E-4.001).
  • Materials CIE has set a date for: if materials are more than 14 calendar days late, CIE assesses $100 per working day until they arrive (Rule 6E-4.001).

Dates that are specific to your school

Your license renewal date, financial statement due date, and any dates in a CIE letter or order come from your license and CIE correspondence, not from a general calendar. CIE sets renewal application deadlines for the Commission’s licensure applications and gives at least 30 days’ notice. Annual licensure also requires an independent CPA review or audit, so build lead time for your CPA. See the annual renewal checklist.
